Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. At least two men were arrested after trying to "gain unauthorized access" to Camp Pendleton on Friday. The suspects were apprehended by officers from the base's Provost Marshall's office, according to base spokesperson Taylor Schrick. "The incident occurred at an unspecified location on base. No shots were fired aboard Camp Pendleton as a result of the incident, Schrick confirmed. The individuals were "turned over to the San Diego Sector Border Patrol," Schrick added. "As a matter of policy, we do not discuss force protection measures," Shrick replied. (NBC San Diego)
  2. Oceanside is among 17 California cities that scored the highest for LGBTQ-friendly policies and services. Oceanside ranked ninth overall on the list of seventeen California cities that earned perfect scores (100/100) from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) for inclusive policies and services toward the LGBTQ community. "This is the eleventh year that the HRC has released its Municipal Equality Index. In 2022, the average city score jumped to 68, which is an all-time high. Across the country, there were 120 cities that earned perfect scores, up from 110 last year. (California City News)
  3. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton is one of 14 projects approved for the construction of a military child care center. While some of the projects only received funding for planning, "Camp Pendleton, Scott AFB, JB San Antonio-Randolph and Wright-Patterson AFB, the authorizations are for the full projected cost." said Caitlin Hamon, deputy director of government relations for the National Military Family Association. "Given that child care issues can influence a family's decision to leave the military, we appreciate that Congress has recognized this as a readiness issue and is being proactive about addressing the problem," she said.
