Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:
- The city is inviting the community to attend an informational meeting about plans for the new Oceanside Police Headquarters. The current headquarters was only meant to be a temporary location for a maximum of 10 years, but after more than 23 years, finally plans are afoot to relocate it to Rancho Del Oro Road, across from El Corazon. The project will be funded by Measure X, the city's half-cent sales tax. The meeting will be held on March 15 to answer questions and gather input from the community. "Staff and the project architect will be present to provide an overview of the proposed facility, including its proposed layout and features." (City of Oceanside)
- Looking for new things to do with your dog? Oceanside is home to two golf courses where you can hit the links with your dog. Emerald Isle Golf Course and Goat Hill Park Golf Club allow dogs to play along with their owners, which makes them a rarity in our region. Emerald Isle lets well-mannered dogs roam free, as long as their owners pick up any waste. Goat Hill owner John Ashworth attributes the idea to seeing dogs on the courses during a visit to Scotland, the birthplace of golf. (CBS 8 San Diego)
- Did you hear the booms earlier in the week? While people throughout the area believe they were caused by earthquakes, the USGS says the closest quake was nowhere near San Diego County. The answer to the mysterious booms may lie just to the north, at Camp Pendleton, which conducts live-fire training with high explosive munitions. "Camp Pendleton spokeswoman Taylor Schrick who couldn't say for sure if the 'booms' were theirs. Schrick also said people can hear training explosions up to 50 miles away from the base." (NBC 7 San Diego)
