Here are the top stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Caltrans extended the closure of Westbound State Route 78 between El Camino Real and College Boulevard until later today to finish emergency repairs. A sinkhole opened on the roadway after a 50-year-old culvert failed last Wednesday as a result of last week's heavy rainstorm. Oceanside police recommend "Motorists detour to the College Boulevard/Vista Way off-ramp, then west on Vista Way to the westbound SR-78 El Camino Real on-ramp." (Oceanside Police Department via Facebook)
  2. Do you know a local Oceanside hero that should be recognized by the community? MainStreet Oceanside is seeking nominations for the 2023 Hometown Heroes. " This annual recognition honors residents who have made a significant contribution of time and energy through volunteerism outside their normal scope of work to improve quality of life, promote positive community development, and enhance neighborhoods in Oceanside." The 2023 Hometown Heroes will be honored at the 27th Annual Oceanside Independence Parade on Saturday, June 24, 2023. The deadline to submit nomination forms is 5:00 p.m. on April 14, 2023. Nomination forms are available on the parade website OceansideParade.com (MainStreet Oceanside)
  3. A new exhibit at the Oceanside Museum Of Art showcases artworks that are 3-dimensional forms as well as large-scale photography. "The Melissa Meier: Becoming Nature exhibit costumes are developed into moveable, wearable sculptures that are brought to life, serving as independent sculptures and in their final documented form as archival fine art photographs." The Becoming Nature exhibit runs through Sunday, June 25. (There San Diego)
