Here are the top stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:
- Oceanside police are looking for 2 suspects who shot an AM PM store clerk during an armed robbery early Sunday morning on Oceanside blvd. The clerk was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. "According to police spokesperson Jennifer Atenza, the two men had entered the store and demanded cash from the store clerk. One of the suspects pointed a black semi-automatic pistol at the clerk. The clerk complied and handed over a few hundred dollars, then he tried to chase the robbers out of the store using a stick, Atenza said. It was during that altercation that one of the men shot him in the torso, she said. Police say the suspects are Latino, between 20 and 25 years old and about 5 feet 10 inches with medium build". (San Diego Union-Tribune)
- The Netflix documentary 'Killer Sally' is based on the real-life killing of Ray McNeil by his wife Sally McNeil in Oceanside in 1995. The two former Marines were known to fight frequently and violently. The docuseries is from Sally's point of view since she was released from prison after serving 25 years. "On Valentine's Day in 1995, Sally claimed Ray came home drunk and started fighting with her. He grew violent, choking and beating her. Sally said she ran to the bedroom, where she kept the sawed-off shotgun, and shot Ray in self-defense. Sally immediately called 911 and confessed to the crime. While the Netflix show covered many of the details of Sally's story, many were left out." (Showbiz Cheat Sheet)
- OPD Officers called in the help of K9 Jenko to conduct a search for a reported firearm. After Oceanside Police responded to a call of a battery at an apartment complex it was reported that one of the parties involved was in possession of a firearm. "Officer Marshall and his partner, K9 Jenko, conducted a search of the immediate area. K9 Jenko alerted on a bush adjacent to a children's playground in the complex, where Officers ultimately discovered a Glock handgun had been concealed." (Oceanside Police Department via Facebook)
