Oceanside Surf News: Hangin' With The Trenchcoat Guy

OCEANSIDE, CA — Welcome to Oceanside Surf News. This week we are featuring the Pro Surf Blog with something a little different called "The Trenchcoat Guy - Oceanside". Featuring local legend Bruce Parker.

Today I went down to Wisconsin Street to meet up with Stephen Back and The Trenchcoat Guy (Bruce). The high tide totally swamped-out Wisconsin Street so we walked down to the Oceanside Pier for Bruce to jump into the ocean.

The Trenchcoat guy (Bruce Parker) has been walking up and down the shoreline for years having fun in the shore break. Bruce likes to go out when it is high tide. He likes to wear a real trenchcoat and shoes to fully enjoy his time in the ocean. Bruce is part of the surf community in Oceanside. Many people try to save him but he politely refuses their attempts. He said that his trench coat weighs around 75lbs when fully wet. He tested it in the bathtub at home. The Trenchcoat guy said back in the 60s they had Jeep races on the beach and that there was a lot of sand back then.

We had a truly enjoyable time hanging out and going along for the adventure. Many local residents greeted Bruce as we walked down the beach. A true legend.

Bruce challenged Jonathan Wayne Freeman to walk out in the trench coat, he gave to him, in future video. He also said he will loan anyone a trenchcoat who wants to wear it into the ocean.

Stephen Back co-hosted this episode of Epic Surf News and even got his sweatpants wet, yew. Bruce let us know that no one will think you "let loose" if only the bottoms of your pants are wet".
