Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. The military is investigating after a Camp Pendleton Marine was found dead in his barracks earlier this month. Private first-class Christopher Hutchings was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 372, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. The circumstances of his death are unclear and are the focus of an ongoing investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). A memorial service is planned with military honors and a fully escorted procession through Hutchings home town in Chaffee County, Colorado on Feb. 26. (NBC 7 San Diego)
  2. Oceanside Unified School District (OUSD) is providing free vision care for students in need through a partnership with Vision To Learn. The nonprofit will provide eye care services with its "vision vans" to Oceanside students through a $250,000 grant. OUSD started with four schools in the program last year, including elementary schools Mission, Libby and Laurel along with Jefferson Middle School. Cesar Chavez Middle School and Pablo Tac School of the Arts will be added this year. (Coast News)
  3. A new Oceanside Parks & Rec standing committee will look into fair access for local fields and facilities. After members of the community raised concerns about problems trying to get permits for public facilities, the Oceanside Parks and Recreation Commission approved the new committee. The committee will investigate any unfairness in permits and the fair allocation of fields, facilities, outdoor courts, gymnasiums and aquatic centers throughout the city.
