- Below-average temperatures were expected in San Diego County for much of this week before a gradual warming into next weekend, the National Weather Service said Sunday. High temperatures along the coast Sunday were predicted to be in the mid-70s with overnight lows of around 60. Highs in the valleys were expected to be in the upper 70s with lows in the mid-50s. - Oceanside luthier Shawn Weimer has spent the last seven years creating one-of-a-kind guitars made from rare and exotic woods such as 50,000-year-old Cowry and Sitka dating back to 1400 B.C. Each guitar is unique and a work of art that will withstand several generations, making them more than just an instrument but also an heirloom. Shawn and his wife Sally run a joint studio and shop on Copperwood Way in Oceanside, where he makes guitars and she makes custom pottery. Zoe Guitar customers can buy off-the-rack handmade guitars for around $1,200, but many Zoe customers relish the idea of having their guitars built to order. (San Diego Union-Tribune)
- The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose a half-cent Saturday to $5.386, one day after a 13-day streak of increases ended when the average price dropped three-tenths of a cent Friday. It is 5.6 cents more than one week ago, 5.9 cents higher than one month ago and $1.038 greater than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. The average price is 98.7 cents less than the record $6.373 set June 15. In Oceanside, gas prices have risen to $4.95 a gallon for the lowest-priced gas, according to GasBuddy. (Patch)
- A man and three juveniles were arrested on suspicion of robbery and weapons charges after they allegedly stole cell phones and cash from four juveniles in Vista, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said Sunday. On Saturday, four people in a Nissan Sentra stopped next to four juveniles skateboarding, sheriff's Sgt. Eric Cottrell said. "The driver of the Nissan exited, pulled out a pistol, and pressed it into one of the juvenile's back as he demanded his cell phone and cash," Cotrell said. "The other three suspects exited the vehicle and assisted in stealing the other juveniles' cell phones and cash as the driver continued to point the gun. The suspects then fled the scene in the Nissan." (Patch)
- Long hair and big hearts are wanted in October at Spa Pechanga at Pechanga Resort Casino. The 8th Annual Mane Campaign returns and is offering free cuts and hairstyles for anyone willing to cut and donate eight or more inches of their hair to help those battling cancer. Donors get a free, fresh hairstyle for fall and their freshly shorn hair allows more real-hair wigs to be made and given free of charge to cancer warriors, courtesy of Hair We Share.
