Here are the top five stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. The Historic "Sunshine" Brooks Theater has long been considered the cultural center point of Oceanside. Now, with a new 20-year City of Oceanside Use Agreement the Oceanside Theatre Company (OTC), is taking bold steps to meet the cultural needs of a growing North County community. The first step for the previously all-volunteer OTC management team was to hire its first Managing Director, Alex Goodman. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
  2. A consultant for the Oceanside Firefighters Association is being investigated by the FBI for "theft or bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds". FBI special agent Brian Adkins said Rafiei "lied" to the FBI. An affidavit outlined a number of pay-to-play schemes that fingered the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, marijuana licenses and other bribe-tainted arrangements. The Oceanside Firefighters Association paid Rafiei's Progessive Solutions Consulting more than $170,000 starting in 2014. In 2020 alone the OFA paid Rafiei $69,750 to help them decide how to run their political campaigns that year. (San Diego Reader)
  3. D2K Technologies, a women-and minority-owned small business based in Oceanside, was selected by NASA as one of hundreds of small businesses to develop technology to help drive the future of space exploration. The company will create a monitoring and advisory system for health management of solenoid operated valves (SOV) used in industrial applications with its Phase I award. (IConnect007)
  4. Marine Corps snipers will soon be equipped with a longer-range, more versatile rifle designed to increase lethality and establish threat overmatch on the battlefield in support of Force Design 2030. The Mk22 Mod 0 Advanced Sniper Rifle is a bolt action, precision rifle system. (Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Press Release Desk)
  5. A multi-state outbreak of Hepatitis A is possibly linked to fresh organic strawberries, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Traceback investigations established a potential link between the hepatitis A outbreak and strawberries bought between March 5 and April 25. People in California, Minnesota, and Canada reported having purchased fresh organic strawberries branded as FreshKampo or H-E-B prior to becoming ill, according to authorities. There have been 17 reported cases of hepatitis A in California, Minnesota and North Dakota, resulting in 12 hospitalizations. (San Diego Patch)
