Here are the top four stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Oceanside is considered as one of six surprisingly affordable places to own beachfront property in California and the only city listed in Southern California . Beachfront property under a million dollars in California is considered affordable these days. For people who appreciate the warmer temperatures and sunnier beaches of SoCal, the town of Oceanside is a winner, according to The Budget Travel Buff. Located less than thirty minutes away from San Diego and Orange County, and with a median home price of $848,620, according to Zillow, lovers of places like Malibu and San Diego can get many of the same benefits and amenities for a lower price, with access to a big city. (GOBankingRates)
  2. North County Transit District is increasing the pay and benefits package it offers to new bus drivers from $18.84 to $22 per hour. No experience is required, and NCTD will provide paid commercial driver's license training, the press release says. NCTD is also offering new drivers a sign-on bonus. Applicants without a CDL would receive a $2,000 bonus, while new hires with a CDL and experience would get $5,000. One benefit highlighted in the press release was healthcare coverage, which would cover 80% or more of the premium cost. (ABC 10 News San Diego KGTV)
  3. San Diego County Crime Log: A look at some of this week's police, fire and courtroom stories from across the region. A man pleaded guilty to murder in woman's stabbing on Carlsbad Trail. A man kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman in Pacific Beach. A plane crashed in El Cajon. A pilot was injured but is expected to survive. A man was sentenced for firing a gun near demonstrators outside the mayor's home. A man arrested in San Diego during a sex trafficking sting has been charged. (Patch).
  4. San Diego County's unemployment rate decreased to 3.1% in July, up from a revised 3.2% in May, according to the latest figures released by the state Employment Development Department. July's unemployment rate was considerably less than July 2021's rate of 6.9%. Last month's rates compare with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 3.9% for California and 3.8% for the nation during the same period. According to the EDD, between June and July, nonfarm employment retracted by 6,700 jobs, from 1,515,500 to 1,508,800. Agricultural jobs decreased by 200 month-over-month. (Patch)
