  1. May is stacking up to be an event-filled month in Oceanside. Mark your calendar for Mother's Day Is Sweet, Operation Appreciation, Music at the Museum, Heritage Park Day and more happenings in May. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
  2. What do San Diego moms want from their kids this Mother's Day? What many will likely get come May 8 are jewelry and Mother's Day brunch or dinner out. Those two categories are driving a record $31.7 billion in Mother's Day spending, a $3.6 billion increase over last year's record, according to a report last week from the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insight & Analytics. Some 84 percent of U.S. adults said they plan to celebrate Mother's Day with a gift, spending $245 on average on their mothers and mother figures, the report said. (San Diego Patch)
  3. The sheriff's arson unit is investigating a series of small fires that erupted Thursday in Vista and Oceanside, including at least two incidents in which a man was reportedly seen starting the blazes, authorities said Friday. The first fire was reported just before 1 p.m. Thursday just south of State Route 78, according to Sgt. Anthony Portillo from the sheriff's bomb/arson unit. About three hours later a second fire was reported at the same location. During the second call in the late afternoon, witnesses reported seeing a man starting several fires in that area. About four hours later and two miles away, Oceanside police responded to a report of a man trying to start a fire, Portillo said. (The San Diego Union-Tribune)
  4. California is no stranger to outrageous property, but the Golden State's celebrity clientele really know how to up the ante. Huge names like Drake, The Weeknd, Katy Perry and Mark Wahlberg all made major real estate moves in recent months, and the properties they handled are larger-than-life.
