- Oceanside fire and police units called in the San Diego hazmat team after responding to a vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon on College Boulevard. A pickup truck carrying pool chemicals was rear-ended by two other vehicles after it broke down on the road. The crash resulted in chemicals being spilled and caused a "dangerous chlorine gas to be formed." Officials isolated the area while the County of Environmental Health Hazmat Specialist assisted with eliminating the chemical threat. After the damaged vehicles were towed and the street sweepers cleaned the area, the road was reopened to traffic. (Fox5 San Diego)
- The Oceanside Transit Center will be getting a full-scale makeover as the North County Transit District (NCTD) "looks to maximize the use" of its land for redevelopment projects. Chris Orlando, the chief planning and communications officer with NCTD, said "mixed-use projects are being proposed around four North County stations: Oceanside, Carlsbad Village, Carlsbad Poinsettia, and Escondido." With 10.2 acres and a hub for Greyhound, Amtrak, Metrolink trains, and NCTD’s Coaster, Sprinter, and Breeze buses, the Oceanside transit center is the first slated for redevelopment. Plans include 500+ mixed-income apartments, a hotel and commercial space. (KPBS)
