Here are the top four stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:
- Unlike many cities in Southern California that are facing severe water restrictions, Oceanside has a targeted reduction of 10% currently in place but warns of increases needed during the hot summer months. Green Oceanside released an update to the community in response to recent water restrictions implemented at the state level. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
- Parts of San Diego County are in for a windy weekend, with gusts up to 60 or even 70 mph expected in the deserts and mountains, the National Weather Service said Saturday. A wind advisory was issued from noon Saturday to 6 p.m. Monday for the desert and mountain areas, with general west winds of 25 to 35 mph expected. The strongest winds were expected Sunday afternoon and evening, reducing visibility in blowing sand in the deserts. The weather service warned drivers to use extra caution, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle. (City News Service)
- The Santa Margarita Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, celebrated its patriotic ancestors at a chapter meeting in Oceanside. Lesley Clifton spoke of James Tarbell of Massachusetts, who fought in the American Revolution, in which four of his brothers died. Clifton still has the family Bible and letters from that time. Alida Woodward spoke of Oliver Lamphear, a ship's captain from Connecticut, whose wife and sons had to protect their belongings from the British during the time of the American Revolution. Wanda Prosser spoke of Elisha Bailey of Virginia who was at the Battle of Yorktown when Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington. (The San Diego Union-Tribune)
- California likely will have an energy shortfall equivalent to what it takes to power about 1.3 million homes when use is at its peak during the hot and dry summer months, state officials said Friday. Threats from drought, extreme heat and wildfires, plus supply chain and regulatory issues hampering the solar industry will create challenges for energy reliability this summer and in the coming years, the officials said.
