Oceanside's Paul Keating Lands Role On HBO Max Series FBOY Island
Up close with Paul Keating on being raised in Oceanside and his role in the new HBO Max series FBOY Island, debuting July 29th.
OCEANSIDE, CA — Set your DVR for July 29 and watch Oceanside hometown guy Paul Keating on HBO Max's new series FBOY Island.
Like many Oceanside boys, Paul grew up surfing, playing baseball and going to school. Paul literally moved his way into the entertainment industry when he met a scout while working for a moving company.
Now, at the age of 27 the surfing and yoga Instructor, model and mover is back from his latest adventure on FBOY Island. The 10-episode reality dating series from HBO Max™ was filmed earlier this year in the Cayman Islands. Hosted by hit comedian and actress Nikki Glaser, FBoy Island is a social experiment that asks the age-old question: Can FBoys truly reform or do Nice Guys always finish last?

Can you share a little about your background and growing up in Oceanside?
I was born and raised in the same house (which we still have) in Fire Mountain and lived there until college. Since, I’ve lived in Orange County, LA, and Mexico City. I went to Tri-City Christian school from preschool and High School in Vista where my mom was a teacher.

What are your favorite places to hang out in Oceanside?
I grew up surfing and hanging out near the rock in Oceanside at a spot we called Pinkhouse, off Crosswaithe street. No Idea why we called it Pinkhouse, but that’s what my friend called it and we stuck with it. Other than that I love surfing the pier, harbor, and checking out all these new restaurants when I’m back. I loveeee love love Vital Climbing Gym in Oceanside. Best gym I’ve ever belonged to. Great community, instructors, and it’s somehow open for rock climbing and lifting for 24 hours. It’s perfect.
How did you get on the FBOY Island series?
I got on the show by responding to a dm. I thought it was a scam until I was on the Cayman Islands with a bunch of dudes and cameras.
Your website slogan is 'Professional Fun-Haver'. Does that signal that you are more of an FBOY, than a Nice Guy?
Not at all! I have that label as a social contract for myself. I am the guy who brings the fun no matter the situation.
Do you have a favorite among the 3 single women that will be on the show?
Can’t talk about this:/ and we already shot it. All I can say is that it was an absolute blast and an interesting experiment/experience that I’m happy I got to be a part of.
What are your plans after the show?
To keep living, learning, and experience what the world has to offer. I’m an actor as well and am always on the hunt for roles in films and television. I plan to keep teaching surfing as well:) My ultimate goal is to have a family. An upcoming adventure I’m planning is to drive to Nicaragua from Oceanside and deliver as much baseball gear as I can get a hold of to the leagues down in Nica. They love baseball and baseball was my first love.
Anything else you want to share with your fellow Oceansider's?
Ya, keep Oceanside rad. Every time I come back I feel so much pride and I hardly even recognize it. I’m stoked to see all the new restaurants and businesses making Oceanside even cooler.
