Hello, neighbors! I'm here right on time with your fresh copy of the Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Daily, full of everything you need to know about what's happening locally. In today's briefing, you'll find these stories and more:

  • Oceanside Unified School District honored for meeting needs of LGBTQ+ students
  • Ionis building new manufacturing facility in Oceanside
  • San Diego County's new secure, standalone ballot drop box.

But first, today's weather:

Cloudy. High: 73 Low: 64.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Oceanside School District gets kudos for LGBTQ+ equality progress. "CA Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond joined local Superintendent Julie Vitale, to honor Oceanside Unified School District (OUSD) for its exemplary work in meeting the needs of its LGBTQ+ middle and high school students. For the leadership of OUSD, building a culture of understanding and safety for all students is an ongoing and intentional process. While OUSD officials describe their work as ongoing and incomplete, their progress toward a safer and more equitable community for LGBTQ+ has already been transformational in the lives of their students." (California Teachers Association)
  2. Ionis to develop new manufacturing ops in Oceanside. "On Wednesday, the company unveiled plans for a new development, chemistry and manufacturing site in Oceanside. At an expected 217,000 square feet, the site will be double the size of Ionis' current Carlsbad site, the company said. The site will come equipped with advanced sustainability and environmental protection features, including generating 50% of its power from solar panels. Ionis expects to occupy the new site by 2025 and begin manufacturing active pharmaceutical ingredients by mid-2026. The new facility will support the company's growing pipeline, which includes products across therapeutic areas including cardio-renal, neurological, infectious disease, rare disease and hematology." (FiercePharma)
  3. San Diego County introduces a new secure ballot drop box. "Registered voters who received their ballot for the Nov. 8 Statewide General Election can begin returning them Monday at one of the Registrar's new official stand-alone drop boxes. Mail ballots are enroute to San Diego County's 1.9 million registered voters for the Nov. 8 Statewide General Election and some voters may have received theirs as early as Saturday. Voters who choose to return their ballot at one of the Registrar's official ballot drop box locations will see newly designed, secure, stand-alone boxes. Select drop boxes will be located outside and available 24-hours a day up until 8 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 8. Find the closest one to you by visiting the Registrar's online locator tool." (Press Release Desk)
  4. Look to the skies, Oceanside. "Fall meteor showers are just getting started in San Diego County and Southern California. The Draconid meteor shower is now past its peak, but the next big show is already underway. Welcome to the 2022 Orionids and long-running Taurids nightly show. Stargazers can see a spattering of meteors stemming from the Orion, Leo and Taurus constellations through early November, according to the American Meteor Society. The big difference between the Draconids and the upcoming Orionids meteor showers is the number of meteors one can see. Typically a minor show with only about 10 shooting stars an hour, the Draconids can be a sleeper." (Patch)
