Here are the top stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:
- Oceanside police are searching for a hit-and-run suspect who struck a woman in a crosswalk on Wednesday. The pedestrian suffered major injuries and had to be airlifted to Scripps La Jolla Hospital. The suspect was driving a pick-up and hit the woman as he was exiting I-5 north to Mission Road, according to authorities. The suspect, who fled the scene, was described "as a man between 30 and 50 years of age. The truck he was driving was described as an older model '80s to early 2000s red Ford F150 extended cab." (Patch)
- Catalytic converter theft has become so rampant in our area that for the second time this week, a group of people is suspected of stealing the valuable loot. This time the police responded to a call that the thieves were driving a black Ford Fusion with no plates. After the car was spotted, a high-speed chase began on SR 76 until police disabled the vehicle with spike strips. The four suspects abandoned the car but were later found hiding in the riverbed, and were arrested after several catalytic converters were found inside their car. (Patch)
