Driver arrested for alleged vehicular manslaughter after struck and killed 65-yr-old pedestrian at El Camino Real & Camino Town crosswalk.

OCEANSIDE, CA — The deadly collision happened Friday night about 8:40 p.m. at the entrance to the Camino Town and Country Shopping Center in Oceanside near Hwy 78.
The 65-year-old pedestrian was crossing El Camino Real Blvd at the Camino Town crosswalk when he was struck and killed. Officers found the man lying unresponsive in the road and despite resuscitation efforts by Oceanside paramedics the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The man's name is being withheld pending notification to his family.
Based on physical evidence at the scene, and witness statements, it appears the driver, Destiney Fierros, ran the red light northbound El Camino Real at Camino Town and struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk. Following the collision, the driver remained on scene and was cooperating with police, according to Oceanside Police Sgt. Rick Davis. Neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in this collision, but the driver was arrested for vehicular manslaughter.
