Prep Football: Servite Blanks Oceanside in Opener
The Anaheim school ranked among the country's best pins a 20-0 loss on the Pirates.
Powerhouse Servite High of Anaheim used a strong running game and a solid defense to blank Oceanside High 20-0 on the Pirates' field Thursday night as the prep football season kicked off.
Servite, ranked as high as No. 1 in the state and No. 4 in the nation in various polls, led 3-0 approaching the midway point of the second quarter when running back Charlie Etiaki escaped a tackle and dashed 72 yards for a score. The visitors led 13-0 at the half and scored a final touchdown with just over seven minutes left to play.
Servite picked up 262 yards on the ground on 35 carries, to just 51 yards on 34 carries for the Pirates, who are No. 1 in the Union-Tribune preseason poll of San Diego schools and No. 2 in a media polling.

Oceanside quarterbacks Tofi Paopao and Ryan Lamb combined to complete 16 of 21 passes for 135 yards, but the Pirates couldn't convert several drives deep into Servite territory into points.
