Here are the top four stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Pure Water Oceanside and other recycled water facilities are being touted as the key to survival in the face of drought and climate change. Pure Water Oceanside is the first advanced water purification plant launched in San Diego County. The facility will provide over 20% of the City of Oceanside's drinking water, but combined with the proposed Pure Water San Diego project and East County Advanced Water Purification Program, Pure Water Oceanside is part of a larger regional push to reduce San Diego County's dependence on imported water, and create a reliable, sustainable local supply. (Capitol Weekly)
  2. A new report from Voice of San Diego raises the question: Did Oceanside's City Treasurer Really Lose the City Millions of Dollars? Oceanside's elected treasurer Victor Roy, is under investigation following complaints lodged by the city's treasury manager. According to city officials, one claim that will not be investigated is whether Roy lost millions of dollars on risky city investments. Oceanside's Assistant City Manager Michael Gossman said the city would not probe the financial allegation partly because Roy does not have unilateral ability to make investments. Voice of San Diego reviewed Oceanside city financial filings, budget documents, quarterly investment reports and other city records to assess whether Hodges' claim was true. (Voice of San Diego)
  3. Junior Seau has been named among the inaugural class announced for the California High School Football Hall of Fame at the Rose Bowl. Seau was born and raised in Oceanside and played at Oceanside High School before going to college at the University of Southern California. Herb Meyer from El Camino High School is one of only 13 Coaches to be inducted. The California High School Football Hall of Fame is set to open in late-November 2022. (Pasadena Now)
  4. The San Diego division of the FBI announced this week that agents have rescued at least 17 potential human trafficking victims, including one under the age of 18, during a nationwide operation. As part of Operation Cross Country XII, FBI agents worked with specialists and local, state and federal partners to identify and find victims and arrest people involved with child sex trafficking and human trafficking during the first two weeks of August, according to the FBI.
