Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Wide swaths of San Diego County will bake in near triple-digit heat as a heatwave settles over the region into the work week. The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for San Diego County's valleys and deserts. "Warm temperatures can quickly rise to dangerous levels — especially in the summer and in parked cars. Stay #WeatherReady and don't underestimate the heat," the National Weather Service tweeted. "Children, the elderly and those with chronic illness are especially vulnerable to heat exposure." (San Diego Patch)
  2. The San Diego County Vector Control Program (VCP) will conduct its fourth routine aerial mosquito-fighting larvicide application on Oceanside waterways on Wednesday, June 29 and Thursday, June 30. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
  3. A 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson and resisting arrest in connection with a 10-acre vegetation fire near the Buena Vista Lagoon in which some homes were briefly evacuated, police said Sunday. The Carlsbad Police Department announced that the fire was contained at about 2 p.m. Saturday with no structures damaged and no reported injuries. Responding officers were told by a witness that a man was seen lighting an object and throwing it into the brush, Jodee Reyes of the CPD said. (Carlsbad Patch)
  4. San Diego County is recommending Coronavirus Vaccine Boosters for older San Diegans. COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters help to prevent severe illness and hospitalization, especially in older adults over the age of 50. However, thousands of older San Diegans have yet to receive all the recommended doses and boosters. Currently, there are 2,384,778 people, 5 years and older, who are eligible for their first booster. (Press Release Desk)
  5. San Diego County residents and businesses who disagree with their property tax assessments for the 2022-2023 Fiscal Year may file an application to appeal their value between July 2 and Nov. 30. The Clerk of the County Assessment Appeals Board, Andrew Potter, announced the filing period Thursday. (Press Release Desk)
