SDSU Football Stays 19th in Associated Press Poll

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State stayed 19th in the most recent Associated Press Top 25 Poll, released Sunday. The No. 19 spot matches the Aztecs’ highest ranking since 1978.

SDSU has been ranked in four straight AP polls for the first time since a school-record run of five straight weeks during the 1970 season.

San Diego State has 465 points in the AP poll, up from 373 last week. The Aztecs are ahead of No. 20 North Carolina State (421 points), No. 21 Michigan State (416 points), No. 22 Central Florida (274 points), No. 23 Stanford (109 points), No. 24 Texas Tech (105 points) and No. 25 Navy (74 points), and just behind South Florida (482 points), ranked 18th in the poll.

This is the 22nd time that SDSU has been ranked in the AP poll since becoming a Division I program in 1969 and the eighth time over the past two seasons (since Sept. 18, 2016).

San Diego State moved up to 18th in the Amway Coaches Poll with 516 points, an increase of 139 points from a week prior. The Aztecs are behind No. 17 Virginia Tech (599 points), and ahead of No. 19 Notre Dame (498), No. 20 North Carolina State (455), No. 21 Central Florida (273) and No. 22 Michigan State (261).

SDSU is 6-0 for the first time since 1975 and for just the second time in the last 47 seasons.

Led by senior Rashaad Penny’s 170 rushing yards, his sixth consecutive 100-yard game, San Diego State beat UNLV, 41-10, on Saturday night.

The Aztecs, who have won eight straight games, are 14-2 in their last 16 contests and 27-3 in their last 30. SDSU also has wins this year over UC Davis (38-17), at Arizona State (30-20), against then No. 19/19 Stanford (20-17), at Air Force (28-24) and versus Northern Illinois (34-28). SDSU won all of its non-conference games in the same season for the first time since 1981.

San Diego State continues Mountain West play Saturday night (7:30 p.m. PT), welcoming Boise State to SDCCU Stadium.

Tickets are still available for the game against the Broncos, but fans are encouraged to purchase tickets early for better seat location. Individual tickets may be purchased online at GoAztecs.com or over the phone at (619) 283-7378. The Aztec Ticket Office, located at SDCCU Stadium Window E, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. PT until 5 p.m. PT. On Saturday, the ticket office will open at 2:30 p.m. PT.

Current San Diego State students can obtain one free ticket with a valid SDSU RedID (card must be swipe valid). Tickets can be retrieved at the Viejas Arena Box Office Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. PT to 4:30 p.m. PT, or at the Conrad Prebys Student Union Information Booth. Students can also pick up their ticket on game day at SDCCU Stadium Windows B, F and H.
