Here are the top five stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. The IRONMAN 70.3 swept into Oceanside this weekend bringing thousands of triathletes and fans from around the world. The competition did not disappoint with plenty of exciting, fun, glory-filled and even painful moments. The Patch was on hand to capture highlights starting with IRONMAN Village on Friday through the finish line on Saturday. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
  2. The number of COVID-positive patients in San Diego County hospitals increased by two to 132, according to the latest state data released Saturday. The number of those patients in intensive care also increased by two to 33. Available ICU beds decreased by 15 to 227. San Diego County reported 246 new COVID-19 infections and seven additional virus-related deaths on Friday, which increased the county's cumulative totals to 750,991 cases and 5,185 deaths. (Times of San Diego)
  3. Starting May 1, everybody 18 and under in San Diego County is eligible to ride public transit for free. The offer from the San Diego Association of Governments is good for local buses, the trolley, the Coaster and the light-rail Sprinter line that operates in North County. Children will need a youth account on the new Pronto app or a Pronto card to take advantage of the free rides. To make this happen, SANDAG partnered with the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), North County Transit District (NCTD) and the county, officials said. (NBC San Diego)
  4. Three armed men attacked five people Sunday in a home invasion in University Heights, according to a news video service. Five residents were in a home in the 4500 block of Arizona Street at 1 p.m. when the suspects entered from the alley, according to OnScene.TV. The suspects pistol-whipped four of the residents, some bound with zip- ties. The three suspects searched the home, then left through the back. (San Diego Patch)
  5. If it's punk rock to break the rules, then turn up the Black Flag, starch up your mohawk and bite into a Fudgegazi. The healthy-eating website Eat This, Not That named the punk-themed confection by Donut Friend the unhealthiest menu item in all of California. And when it comes to the unhealthiest menu items in the Golden State, the competition is fierce. Half the menu at the Cheesecake Factory should be in the running. The Double-Double ought to be a candidate. Roscoe's is no slouch in the artery-clogging department. But according to Eat This, Not That, the Fudgegazi is the Sid Vicious of the donut world.
