SDSU Men’s Soccer Releases 2000-09 All-Era Team

Seven members on 2005-06 NCAA tournament teams featured on last All-Era team

SAN DIEGO – In celebration of the program’s 50th year, the San Diego State men’s soccer team has released its fourth and final All-Era to be announced this fall, including the 2000-09 All-Era team released on Monday. For the second time in program history, the Aztecs reached the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons, with SDSU making the tournament in both 2005 and 2006. The 2000-09 All-Era team features seven players that were on at least one of those two postseason-bound teams.

Head Coach: Lev Kirshner

- Named interim head coach in the spring of 2000 and took over as the program’s third head coach in history that fall

- Has led SDSU to three of their nine NCAA appearances

- Orchestrated the program’s move into the Pac-10 (currently Pac-12) in 2005

Assistant Coach: Matt Hall

- Named assistant coach in 2000 and has served with head coach Lev Kirshner since that point

- Named one of the top assistant coaches in the country by College Soccer News in 2007

- Goalkeepers coach for two-time All-American Tally Hall

GK – Tally Hall (2005-06)

- All-American in both of his years at SDSU, becoming the fourth two-time All-American in program history

- 2006 Academic All-American

- 2005-06 NSCAA All-Far West honorees

- 2006 M.A.C Hermann Award semifinalist

- 2006 NSCAA Academic All-Far West

- Back-to-back All-Pac-10 selections and Pac-10 All-Academic selections

- Named Pac-10 Player of the Week on Oct. 3, 2006

- Led the nation with a .889 save percentage in 2005, finished second with a 0.49 goals against average (both are single season records at SDSU)

- Posted a school-record 12 shutouts in 2005 NCAA tournament run

- Recorded 9-5-4 record with a 1.04 goals against average and six shutouts during 2006 NCAA tournament run

- Second in SDSU history with 256 career saves

- Signed professional contract with Esbjerg FB (Denmark)

- Spent eight seasons in the MLS, including time with the Houston Dynamo (2009-14), Orlando City (2015), and D.C. United (2016)

- Earned two All-Star selections, two team MVP awards and started in two MLS cups during MLS career

D – Jamel Wallace (2005, 07-09)

- 2007 & 2009 Pac-10 Honorable Mention, 2008 Pac-10 Second Team

- Named Pac-10 Player of the Week on Sept. 25, 2007

- Drafted by the Seattle Sounders in 2009

- Team captain in 2009, SDSU’s highest ranked RPI soccer team

- Local product from Oceanside High School

D – Nick Cardenas (2006-09)

- First SDSU player to earn four consecutive All-Far West team selections (2006 – second team, 2007 – third team, 2008 – second team, 2009 – second team)

- 2006 College Soccer News All-Freshman team selection

- 2006 Top Drawer Soccer All-Rookie First Team honoree

- 2006 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year

- Four-time Pac-10 All-Conference selection (2006-08 – second team, 2009 – first team)

- Named Pac-10 Player of the Week on Oct. 31, 2006

- Drafted by Kansas City Wizards in 2009, first Aztec to be selected for MLS Combine

- Team captain in 2009, SDSU’s highest ranked RPI season

D – Matt Couch (2002-05)

- 2005 Pac-10 Second Team selection

- Captained 2005 team, SDSU’s first NCAA tournament team since 1989

- Drafted by LA Galaxy and played professionally for San Diego Sockers

D – Steven Beitashour (2006-09)

- 2009 Pac-10 Honorable Mention & Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention

- Drafted by the San Jose Earthquakes in 2009

- Currently plays for Toronto FC, and has made stops with Vancouver Whitecaps, San Jose Earthquakes, and San Jose Frogs during his professional career

- Played on Iran national team from 2013-2014, including 2014 World Cup

- 2016 MLS Cup Finalist

- Scored first professional goal on April 24, 2010 against Chivas USA

- Played in 2012 MLS All-Star game against Chelsea FC

- Recorded 16 assists from 2011-2013, the most among any MLS defender during that time period

MF – Enrique Tovar (2000-01)

- First team co-captain and became first two-time captain during the Kirshner era

- Competed for U.S National Futsal team in 2000

- NSCAA All-Far West Second Team honoree in 2001

- MPSF All-Conference Second Team – Pac. Division in 2000; First Team All-Conference in 2001

- Named MPSF Player of the Week on Oct. 1, 2001

- Signed professional contract with California Cougars in 2005

- Led 2000 team with four goals, six assists, and 14 points

MF – Carlos Menjivar (2000)

- Played on El Salvador National Team in 2002

- Signed professional contract with FAS-El Salvador in 2002 and played six years in El Salvador’s top league

- Scored first goal on the SDSU Sports Deck in men’s soccer history

MF – Raymundo Reza (2007-10)

- Current assistant coach for SDSU men’s soccer

- Only three-time Team MVP during Kirshner era

- Captained 2010 team, the first team to record 10 wins since 1994

- NSCAA All-Far West Selection in 2010

- 2008 Pac-10 Honorable Mention, 2010 Pac-10 First Team

- 2008 Pac-10 Honorable Mention All-Academic team

- Named Pac-10 Player of the Week on Nov. 11, 2008 and Oct. 27, 2009

- Led 2009 team with 16 points on six goals and four assists

- Drafted by Portland 20th overall in MLS Supplemental Draft

- Currently on Mexico’s National Indoor Soccer team

OMF – Joe Corona (2008)

- Member of United States National Team since 2012 and has made 20 career appearances

- Current member of Xolos de Tijuana

- Scored game-winning goal to promote Xolos to Liga MX

- Recorded three goals and an assist in 2008 season with SDSU

- Local product from Sweetwater HS who was San Diego’s 2007-08 CIF Player of the Year

OMF – Raul Bautista (2002-06)

- Two-time captain who led SDSU to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances in 2005-06 (first time since 1988-89)

- 2006 Pac-10 Second Team honoree

- Named Pac-10 Player of the Week on Oct. 3, 2006

- Drafted by Chivas USA in 2007 MLS Supplemental Draft

- Considered by head coach Lev Kirshner as “one of, if not the toughest player to ever play for me at SDSU”

CF – Kraig Chiles (2003, 2005-07)

- Three-time All-Pac-10 selection

- Led Aztecs in goals scored from 2005-07 and finished career with 21 goals and 12 assists

- Drafted by CD Chivas USA 9th overall in 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft, making MLS debut in April 2008

- Has 163 career goals in 61 appearances for San Diego Sockers

- Owns PASL single-season record for goals scored

- All-time leading scorer for San Diego Sockers

- Been a part of the Futsal National Team since 2013

- Won Professional Arena Soccer League Player of the Year Award three consecutive years (2011-2013)

- Four-time PASL National Champion (2010-2013)

- Pac-10 Player of the Week on Oct. 3, 2005 and Oct. 15, 2007

- Local product from Poway HS who served as team captain in 2007
