Shark Sighting Prompts Water Closure At Beaches

An advisory remains in place for the rest of the day.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA – A shark was spotted in Southern California Monday morning, prompting lifeguards to close a stretch of the beach.

Multiple witnesses saw a more than 8-foot-long shark around 9:05 a.m. off the San Clemente Pier, according to the city of San Clemente.

Lifeguards at 9:10 a.m. shut down a two-mile stretch of the beach, from North Beach to Lausens Beach. The area was reopened at 1:10 p.m. after no further sightings were reported.
