- Took a break from the news this weekend? Not to worry, we've rounded up some of the stories you missed in SoCal on Saturday and Sunday. From a man arrested on suspicion of a burglary spree that spanned across four Southland counties to a warning from police about a "violent criminal" on the loose that escaped from a halfway house in Orange County — here are some of the stories you missed over Easter weekend. - Join the Green Oceanside team at the city's Earth Day of Service and Celebration at Buccaneer Park on April 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for an event filled with arts, crafts and activities centered around sustainability and taking action to preserve and protect the planet and community. - San Diego County's unemployment rate dipped to 3.4% in March, down from a revised 4% in February, according to figures released Friday by the state Employment Development Department. March's unemployment rate was also considerably less than March 2021's rate of 7.6%. Last month's rates compare with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 4.2% for California and 3.8% for the nation during the same period. (Times of San Diego)
- As the drug overdose epidemic continues to take lives nationally and statewide, San Diego County will host several sites this month where residents can discard unneeded medications. Removing unused, old or expired medications from medicine cabinets is a measure of preventing misuse and opioid addiction from developing in the first place. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will kick off April 30 and residents are encouraged to drop off medicines in San Diego County. (San Diego Patch)
- Police detained the son of a woman found dead outside an Egger Highlands home Saturday after he barricaded himself following the discovery of her body. Officials with the San Diego Police Department did not release the name of the woman, 68, only describing her as Asian and a resident of the home where she was found, in the 1600 block of Bubbling Well Drive. They also did not release the name of her son, 37, who lives at the residence as well. San Diego police received reports of an unresponsive female who had been found in a vehicle at the home just after 10:15 a.m. (Times of San Diego)
