Sports Car Careens Through Wall, Fences of Oceanside Homes: Police

The driver of a Nissan 350-Z suffered serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene, according to an Oceanside police lieutenant.

Oceanside, CA – A crash sent a sports car careening through the yards of two Oceanside homes Wednesday evening before it came to rest against a fire hydrant, sending the driver to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The initial wreck between a 2012 Nissan 350-Z and a Toyota Prius was reported at 6:48 p.m. in the area of North Santa Fe Avenue and Elsinore Street, according to Oceanside police Lt. Matt Cole.

An investigation of the crash revealed that the Nissan was traveling westbound on North Santa Fe at high rate of speed as it passed Elsinore, Cole said.

As a Toyota Prius turned from southbound Elsinore onto westbound North Santa Fe into the number two lane, it was struck by the Nissan in the front left quarter panel, Cole said in a statement.

The impact caused the Nissan driver to lose control, sending the sports car across the number two lane, the bike lane and up an embankment, where it struck a mature tree and went through a stucco wall bordering a residence in the 1400 block of Powell Road — hitting a Caribbean island palm and a pool security fence.

The Nissan continued through the backyard and through the fence of another adjacent residence on Powell, coming to rest against a decorative fire hydrant, according to Cole's statement.

The driver and sole occupant of the Nissan was airlifted to a local trauma center for treatment of injuries to his lower back and legs.

The Prius driver escaped the crash without injury, the lieutenant said.
