Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Summer 2022 officially begins today with the June solstice and there's plenty to do around our area this summer, including some of our favorite happenings coming up this week. In Oceanside on Summer Solstice, the sun will rise at 5:41 a.m. and will set at 8:02 p.m., meaning we'll see about 14 hours and 21 minutes of daylight. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
  2. The Oceanside International Film Festival exclusive premiere of ANIMAL KINGDOM's third episode from the series' sixth and final season. With the series coming to an epic close this summer, OIFF is providing this celebratory send-off event for fans and the local community. The early screening of this special episode is directed by series star, Shawn Hatosy, who will appear for a special Q&A discussion following the screening. Supported by Visit Oceanside, the event will take place Wednesday at the historic Star Theatre. (KPBS)
  3. The Oceanside Police are investigating after a man was found dead in the middle of SR-76 highway early Saturday morning. Upon arrival, officers located a male lying in the middle of the roadway who was pronounced dead at the scene. Based on witness statements and physical evidence, the preliminary investigation believes the deceased pulled onto the North shoulder of SR-76 for an unknown reason. Sometime later, a second vehicle traveling in the same direction saw a person lying in the middle of the roadway and attempted to avoid the subject, but ultimately struck him with their vehicle.   4. An upcoming benefit concert featuring the classic rock group Three Dog Night hopes to raise money to fight our county's homeless youth problem. Doors of Change is holding a benefit concert with the classic rock band Three Dog Night on Thursday, June 30. The concert will be held at the Moonlight Amphitheater in Vista. Three Dog Night had 20 hits in the top 40 such as "Joy to the World" and "Mama Told Me Not to Come." For ticket information click here. (CBS News 8)
  5. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton: In observance of Juneteenth, the office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Manpower and Reserve Affairs released a video message from the Department of the Navy's (DON) Chief Diversity Officer Robert D. Hogue. Also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, Juneteenth National Independence Day was made a federal holiday when President Biden signed it into law on June 17, 2021. (Press Release Desk)
