Trash Can Fire Spreads To Vista Liquor Store

A fire that sparked in a trash can outside a liquor store spread to the business and caused an estimated $20K in damage, authorities said.

VISTA, CA — A fire that broke out in a trash can Thursday outside of a Vista liquor store spread to the business and caused an estimated $20,000 in damage, authorities said.

Dispatchers received a call shortly after 4:15 a.m. from a person who reported seeing flames coming from a trash can in front of Barno's Deli & Liquor, 2244 South Santa Fe Ave., Vista Deputy Fire Chief Ned Vander Pol said.

Firefighters arrived within seven minutes and found that the flames had spread to the front of the business, Vander Pol said. Crews had the flames knocked down within 30 minutes.

The non-injury blaze caused an estimated $20,000 to the structure and its contents, Vander Pol said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
