U-Haul Truck Fire Contained At Oceanside Rental Facility

OCEANSIDE, CA — An early morning fire destroyed the cargo area of a U-Haul box truck at an Oceanside rental facility Wednesday, but firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to nearby propane storage and other vehicles, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 4:31 a.m. at the U-Haul facility at 802 S. Coast Highway. Fire crews arrived about eight minutes later and found a box truck with flames burning inside its cargo area, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.

The truck was parked next to a propane fueling station and an area where propane cylinders were stored, creating the potential for the fire to spread.

Firefighters from Oceanside, assisted by crews from Carlsbad and Vista, quickly contained the fire to the single truck while protecting the propane equipment, propane cylinders and nearby rental vehicles.

No civilians or firefighters were injured.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
