Wife Of Retired Oceanside Fire Chief Killed In Plane Crash

Oceanside Firefighters Association pays tribute to Tina Ward, wife of retired Fire Chief Joe Ward, who was killed in Monday's plane crash.

OCEANSIDE, CA — The Oceanside Firefighters Association Local 3736 released a statement on Instagram Tuesday night identifying Tina Ward, nurse and wife of recently retired Oceanside Fire Chief Joe Ward, as one of the four people killed in a small plane crash on Monday in El Cajon.

The post included a photo of the couple and offered condolences to the family.

"It is with heavy hearts that the Oceanside Firefighters Association Local 3736 fire family would like to extend our deepest condolences to our recently retired Chief Ward, his family and all family and friends of the members lost during this tragic event. We are shocked and saddened by this devastating news and are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

The FAA released the following statement Tuesday morning about the plane crash:

"A Learjet 35 business jet crashed in a residential San Diego neighborhood around 7:15 p.m. local time Monday. Four people were aboard. The flight departed John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, Calif., and was headed to Gillespie Field Airport in San Diego. The FAA and NTSB will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide all updates. Neither agency identifies people involved in aircraft accidents."

The crash is still under investigation and the names of the three other individuals aboard the plane have yet to be released.
