Woman Killed In 5-Vehicle Crash On I-15 In North County
Two men were arrested on suspicion of DUI, according to the CHP.
BONSALL, CA — Two men were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a women was killed and another was seriously injured in a five-vehicle crash Wednesday night on Interstate 15 in northern San Diego County.
The multi-vehicle crash happened around 11:40 p.m. on southbound I-15, south of Old Highway 395, near Bonsall, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Mark Anthony Bengal, 26, of Chula Vista was driving a Chevrolet Colorado on southbound I-15 when he hit the back of a Nissan Titan, CHP Officer Hunter Gerber said. The Chevy became disabled and was struck by a Volkswagen Tiguan, which was driven by Phillip Mattson, 80, of Encinitas.

A Toyota Camry crashed into the back of the Volkswagen, Gerber said. Immediately after, a fifth vehicle, a Kia Soul, sideswiped the front left of the Chevy.
The right front passenger of the Toyota, a 32-year-old woman from Compton, died at the scene, Gerber said. The driver of the Toyota, a 32-year-old woman from Perris, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. All others involved suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Both Bengal and Mattson were arrested on suspicion of DUI, Gerber said.
