TUSTIN, CA — A longstanding seafood spot in Orange County is shutting its doors.
The Crab Cooker in Tustin will close its doors for good on Sunday, May 31, marking the end of a 33-year run.
"It is with a very heavy heart that we share this news with our staff," owner Jim Wasko said in a statement. "Many of our employees have been with us since we opened 33 years ago, and some have been a part of The Crab Cooker family for over 40 years."
The restaurant opened in 1992 under original founder "Flounder" Bob Roubian, and the Tustin spot was the second location of its original Newport Beach location.
It quickly grew its loyal following with generations of local diners, who enjoyed its family-friendly vibe and mesquite-broiled seafood.
The longstanding seafood spot, according to Wasko, is tied to the expiration of its lease and a pending transformation of the property.
As the Tustin location prepares for closure, the original Crab Cooker in Newport Beach remains open on Newport Boulevard and will celebrate its 75th anniversary this year.
