Suspect Holes Up In OC Motel Room During 8-Hour Standoff

A suspect engaged police in an eight-hour standoff over the weekend.

SANTA ANA, CA — A possibly armed suspect holed up inside a Santa Ana motel room for about eight hours Sunday before surrendering to police without incident, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday to the Studio 6 Suites motel at 1501 N. Harbor Blvd., where the suspect refused to exit a unit at the motel, according to the Santa Ana Police Department. A SWAT team was called to the location at about 5:30 a.m.

A woman was also inside the unit with the suspect. The woman, who was believed to be a willing participant, gave herself up at about noon, police said.

The suspect surrendered at about 12:20 p.m., police reported. No further information was immediately available.
