The shooting happened just before 4 p.m. Monday in the 12100 block of Flagstone Avenue, police said.
The victim — 56-year-old Jeff Fulgham of Garden Grove — sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
Police have not reported what motivated the shooting, but characterized it as a domestic dispute and the two are relatives.
Dale Shelby Shroyer of Garden Grove was charged with attempted murder with sentencing enhancements for discharge of a gun causing great bodily injury and attempted premeditated murder.
Fulgham remained in critical condition, but was expected to survive, according to Garden Grove Police Department Sgt. Nick Jensen.
