IRVINE, CA — Irvine police showed one of their latest tools is lending officers an extra hand to combat crime after the arrest of a suspected drunk driver in Orange County.
On Monday, Irvine police said officers responded to a report of a motorist allegedly swerving his vehicle on the streets. Officers deployed a drone that has joined the department's "Drone As First Responder pilot" program to help track down the suspect.
After taking to the skies, the drone located the suspected drunk driver attempting to evade police in a shopping center as officers were in pursuit.
Bodycam video shows police conducting a sobriety check on the motorist before taking him into custody.
It was not clear when the incident occurred.
