HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — A harbor-side community in Huntington Beach was rattled awake Tuesday morning when a car drove into the harbor and plummeted beneath the waves.
The incident at the Huntington Bay Club Condominiums was called in Tuesday morning to the Huntington Beach Fire Department, authorities said.
According to firefighters, the sole person in the car was able to escape from the vehicle before help arrived.
The person was evaluated at the scene and taken to a local hospital.
Huntington Beach Fire personnel and the Orange County Sheriff's Department Harbor Patrol are currently coordinating a safe recovery plan for the submerged car, authorities said.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
