Animals Displaced In Devastating Eaton Fire Find Refuge In OC
Wild animals displaced by the devastating Eaton Fire are finding respite in Orange County.
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — Wild animals displaced by the devastating Eaton Fire are finding respite in Orange County, thanks to the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center in Huntington Beach.
According to the center, the first transport of displaced wildlife from the Eaton Fire arrived in Orange County Thursday afternoon.
"Tragically, many wildlife are impacted by wildfires and lose their lives. But for those that can be rescued, our staff is trained and ready to triage and treat burn and smoke inhalant victims," Executive Director Debbie McGuire said.

The animals included in the first transport included two male peafowl, one adult opossum and one juvenile opossum. A baby raccoon was also included, but died before arriving to the center in Huntington Beach due to the stress of losing its mother and the fire.
The displace wildlife will recover with the help of Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center staff. According to McGuire, the care center is working in cooperation with the Pasadena Humane Society.
