Bentley is a 3-year-old neutered pitbull that was rescued by Del Mar Dog Rescue from OC Animal Care about five weeks ago. He was extremely stressed in the shelter, and that stress was being mistaken for who he really was.

His foster assured everyone she knew how to help him decompress and that her home would be the best place for him. But within hours of bringing him home, she had visitors over and allowed him to be off leash around complete strangers. Instead of giving him space to settle in, he was overwhelmed.
Bentley became jumpy and mouthy, which isn’t unusual for a dog under that much stress. Instead of recognizing that, she labeled him “vicious” and “dangerous” and wanted him gone. She was even ready to take him back to the shelter.
Thankfully, that decision wasn’t hers to make.
Bentley belonged to the rescue, and Del Mar Dog Rescue stood by him. They refused to give up on him. Instead, they invested in him and sent him to board and train so he could get the structure and guidance he deserved.
Now Bentley is thriving. He has been in board and training for a month now
He’s safe, but every week he remains in boarding makes it harder on the rescue financially.
Those expenses add up quickly, making it harder for the rescue to save the next dog whose life depends on them.
Most importantly, Bentley is ready. He doesn’t belong in boarding anymore. He deserves a loving home, a soft bed, and a family who will give him the chance he never had.
Bentley is a handsome, obedient boy who is great with people and other dogs. He has done the work. Now he just needs someone to believe in him.
