Brush Fire Burning In Orange County Scorches 200 Acres

The fire has grown to 200 acres and is posing challenges for air and ground crews to access due to steep, narrow terrain.

BREA, CA — Four communities in the Brea area near Carbon Canyon Regional Park were given evacuation warnings Saturday after a brush fire broke out and grew to 200 acres.

The fire was reported at 1:37 p.m. Saturday in the area of Carbon Canyon Road and Olinda Place, according to the Orange County Fire Authority. That prompted warnings that residents of Olinda Village and Hollydale Mobile Home Estates should prepare to evacuate.

Firefighters attacked the fire from the air and ground, officials said.

About 3:25 p.m., officials said the blaze had grown to about 40 acres and additional evacuation warnings were issued for El Rodeo Stables and Brea Hills. Those latter warnings were lifted just after 5 p.m. when fire officials reported the fire had grown to 60 acres but that firefighters had significantly slowed its progress. The earlier warnings remained in effect.

The OCFA reported just after 6 p.m. that the fire had grown to 200 acres and that it was difficult for air and ground crews to access in some areas due to steep, narrow terrain. No new evacuation warnings were issued.

Carbon Canyon Road remained closed between Brea Hills and Ruby Drive, officials said. Only residents of the affected communities were being permitted to drive east on Carbon Canyon Road.
