Opossums are a benefit to any garden they inhabit. Their diet includes all types of bugs and insects. They love snails. They also eat mice and rats, and overripe, rotting fruit that has fallen from trees. The opossum helps keep our gardens clean and free of harmful garden pests and rodents, earning the title of “Nature’s Little Sanitation Engineer.”
At the November 10th meeting of the Orange County Organic Gardening Club, Carrie Anderson will discuss living with opossums, including:
- Meet your garden neighbor
- Why an opossum might visit your garden
- The surprising benefits
- Are opossums dangerous?
- Protecting your garden
