Coyote Attacks Toddler In Placentia

A three-year-old playing at an area park was bitten by a coyote Monday afternoon, according to police.

PLACENTIA, CA —A coyote that attacked a 3-year-old girl and another person at a Placentia park Monday was put down, authorities said.

The little girl was with her parents at the Parque del Arroyo Verde Park on the 1000 block of E. Palm Drive, authorities said. She was rushed to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was expected to survive, Placentia Police Sgt. Adam Gloe said.

The coyote ran off into a residential neighborhood, but attempted to bite someone else a short time later, Gloe said.

Police tracked the coyote to a residential neighborhood east of the park, where officers shot and killed the animal "when it was safe to do so," Gloe said.

Orange County Animal Care personnel were called to take custody of the remains.
