ORANGE COUNTY, CA—Disney unveiled massive expansion projects for its Disneyland Resort and Disney California Adventure theme parks over the weekend, including an "Avatar" land.

The plans were announced Saturday, during the second night of D23 — Disney's fan convention held every two years in Anaheim.

The new land — inspired by "Avatar: The Way of Water" — would be built at Disney California Adventure, Disney Parks Chairman Josh D'Amaro said during the announcement.

In addition, D'Amaro announced a new Marvel E-Ticket ride set to open at Disney California Adventure called "Avengers: Infinity Defense." A second ride called Stark Flight Lab will also open at Avengers Campus, though opening dates for either ride were not unveiled.

D'Amaro also announced plans to build a new ride at Disney California Adventure based on the movie "Coco." The ride, he said, is set to open in 2026 and will draw inspiration from Pirates of the Caribbean and feature an emphasis on music and song.

The theme park also has plans to unveil a new show about Walt Disney. The show, titled "Walt Disney — A Magical Life," will feature an audio-animatronic figure of Walt Disney himself.

The show will play in rotation with "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" at the Disneyland Opera House, D'Amaro said.
