Fire Breaks Out Near 55 Freeway Monday: CHP

A man was seen running from the site of the fire after it was reported at 3:10 p.m. in Santa Ana.

SANTA ANA, CA — A fire was reported in Orange County near the California State route 55 Freeway Monday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The fire was reported at 3:10 p.m. near the right shoulder of the freeway traveling south near Dyer Road in the City of Santa Ana, authorities said.

As of 3:31 p.m., CHP officers shut down the freeway's on-ramp to address the flames.

According to officers, a potential suspect was seen running from the scene wearing carrying a plastic bag and wearing a backpack.

The size of the fire was not immediately known.

As of 4:11 p.m., the 55 Freeway on-ramp had been reopened, authorities said.
