Free Smoke Detector Event In Santa Ana

In an effort to ensure all residents are safe in the event of a house fire, the Orange County Fire Authority is hosting this event Saturday.

SANTA ANA, CA — OCFA and Red Cross are teaming up for the largest Free Smoke Alarm Event in Santa Ana, this weekend.

Hundreds of Santa Ana residents will receive free smoke alarms on Saturday during the largest installation event since the program started. It is expected that over a thousand smoke alarms will be installed.

Approximately two-thirds of all home fire deaths occur in homes without working smoke alarms, OCFA Capt. Tony Bommarito said.

Since most fatal fires occur at night, it's essential that every home has working smoke alarms to provide an early warning.

Working smoke alarms increase the chance of surviving a home fire by 50 percent. Over a hundred volunteers will canvas the neighborhood installing free smoke alarms to residents.
