The city of Anaheim wants residents to take part in helping to pick the next police chief. Here's what you need to know.

ANAHEIM, CA — What would residents want in their next police chief? The city of Anaheim is searching for a new police chief, and you can take part, according to a recent release.

"We're holding meetings to hear what residents would like to see in our next chief," a spokesperson for the city said. How can residents find the right fit?

"You can join the conversation at upcoming community meetings, including with our advisory councils to Anaheim's police chief: the Chief's Advisory Board and the Chief's Neighborhood Advisory Council," they said.

The Chief's Advisory Board members offer input on issues impacting quality of life in Anaheim, while the Chief's Neighborhood Advisory Council is made up of dedicated residents who work with the chief to improve neighborhoods.

The next chief will be the 34th in the Anaheim Police Department's 148-year history. The police chief oversees a department of 600 employees, including 400 officers and other sworn personnel working to keep our community safe.

We expect to hire the new chief later this year.
