Home Intruder Armed With Hatchet Shot, Killed By OC Deputies

MIDWAY CITY, CA — A person who reportedly broke into a Midway City home Wednesday was shot and killed by Orange County Sheriff's deputies, authorities said.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to the 14000 block of Van Buren Street at about 5 a.m. in response to reports of a "subject breaking into a house and vandalizing property," authorities said.

"A deputy-involved shooting occurred and subject is deceased at scene," the sheriff's department said in a statement.

According to authorities, the suspect was armed with a hatchet at the time of the shooting.

Information was not immediately available on the identity of the fatally injured person. The circumstances of the shooting were under investigation.
