How Much Rain Did Orange County Get In Tuesday's Storm?

LAKE FOREST, CA — The heavy winter storm that surged through the Southland incited traffic chaos, flood warnings and a whole lot of rain throughout Orange County. The county's foothills received the most rain during Tuesday's storm, according to data collected by Orange County Public Works.

Residents across Orange County saw their fair share of rain showers Tuesday. OC Public Works reported that north Orange County received between .71 to 2.48 inches of rain during the winter storm. In comparison, south Orange County received between .57 to 3.76 inches of rain.

The county's foothill communities took home the gold for heaviest rain, OC Public Works said. Upper Silverado Canyon recorded a total 4.76 inches of rain, Upper Harding Canyon boasted 3.98 inches, Santiago Creek had 3.76 inches and Santiago Peak reported 3.19 inches of rain.

The pounding rain triggered mandatory evacuations in canyon communities, and the Orange County Fire Authority was hard at work Tuesday rescuing canyon residents trapped in their homes due to flash floods and mudslides in the area.

Monday's storm also incited traffic havoc throughout the county. The California Highway Patrol reported numerous incidents of cars spinning out on Orange County freeways and debris, such as furniture, tumbleweeds and garbage, creating traffic hazards for drivers.
