Man, 68, Attacked By Panhandler Outside OC Grocery Store

Surveillance footage of the attack shows an assailant slamming a shopping cart into a 68-year-old man with a prosthetic leg.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — A 68-year-old man with a prosthetic leg was attacked and robbed by a panhandler in an Orange County shopping center after he refused to give the assailant money, authorities said Thursday.

The suspect, who was only identified by authorities as a panhandler, remains at large and is being sought by the Santa Ana Police Department.

The attack happened Sept. 19 in a parking lot at 1400 West Edinger Ave., the Santa Ana Police Department said in a statement.

According to the statement, the suspect attacked the man after he refused to give him money.

The surveillance footage shows the assailant using the shopping cart to knock over the victim, who uses a cane, before robbing him and running away.

The victim was taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was described as 25-35 years old, roughly 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 185 pounds and donning a tattoo on his outer, left forearm.

He was wearing a black shirt, black pants and white shoes at the time of the attack.
