Man Killed On Orange County Freeway After His Car Became Disabled
A man was killed in the early morning hours when he edited his vehicle reportedly to fix it after it became disabled.
YORBA LINDA, CA — A man was killed while trying to fix his disabled vehicle in the early morning hours on the Riverside (91) Freeway in the Yorba Linda Monday.
The fatal crash shut down all westbound lanes except the carpool lane for hours, according to the California Highway Patrol. The closure backed up traffic for miles ahead of the morning rush hour.
The man was struck while standing in lanes of the Riverside (91) Freeway in the Yorba Linda area. The fatal crash occurred at 12:10 a.m. on the westbound Riverside Freeway just east of Gypsum Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP shut down all westbound lanes but the HOV lanes at 12:37 a.m. for the investigation.

The Orange County coroner's office arrived at the scene at 12:42 a.m.
A witness told the CHP a red sedan was on the right shoulder and then a witness said a male was in the Nos. 2 and 3 lanes "trying to touch vehicles and get them to stop."

At 12:22 a.m., a witness reported a large unknown item was in lanes and vehicles were almost running into it.
The driver who crashed into the man was not injured in the crash and stayed at the scene. There was no immediate report of any arrests in connection with the fatal crash.
