SANTA ANA, CA — A 28-year-old man was charged Wednesday with attempting to kill a child with a knife and screwdriver in Santa Ana, court records show.

Christopher Lee Kearns was charged with attempted murder and child abuse and endangerment — both felonies, according to court records. Kearns also faces sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury and the personal use of a deadly weapon.

According to the criminal complaint, Kearns is accused of attacking the child on Sunday with both a knife and a screwdriver.

He did not enter a plea at his arraignment Wednesday, which was rescheduled for March 1 in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.
