A conflict between a man who was walking his dogs and a homeless man led to a fatal shooting Thursday in Garden Grove.

GARDEN GROVE, CA — A conflict between a man who was walking his dogs and a homeless man led to a fatal shooting Thursday in Garden Grove, authorities said.

Officers were called at around 2:50 p.m. to the 100000 block of Katella Avenue, near Brookhurst Street, in response to reports of a person down on a sidewalk, according to the Garden Grove Police Department.

When officers arrived, they learned that two men engaged in confrontation and the dog walker shot the homeless man.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead of multiple gunshot wounds.

The dog walker apparently has a concealed weapon permit, The Orange County Register reported, but police said that detail has not been confirmed.

Authorities said the shooter, who was not identified, is cooperating with the investigation and is not in custody.
